Orford Nickel mine, St-Denis-de-Brompton, Le Val-Saint-François RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada.
It is a Nickel deposit in calcite vein at the contact between serpentinized peridotite and volcanic rock.
First explored in 1860 as a copper prospect. Mining for nickel was done from 1878 until 1882 By a company formed by Lawyer Robert Thompson, Orford nickel and Copper company. Due to the difficulties in smelting process mine was abandoned in 1883.
Known for excellent specimens of Diopside, Grossular, chrome-bearing Garnet, brownish to orange Grossular and fine Millerite Specimens. 21 valid species include; Allanite-(Ce), Andradite, Annabergite, Apatite group, Arsenopyrite, Calcite, Chromite, Clinochlore, Diopside, Dolomite, Epidote, Godlevskite, Grossular, Magnetite, Maucherite, Microcline, Millerite, Pecoraite, Pentlandite, Prehnite, Tremolite.
